Contextual Fit
Addition to an Existing Order
The objective of this project was to design an addition to the existing structure of the Smith House, designed by Richard Meier in 1965, located on the Long Island Sound. By analyzing the original form and structure, in addition to the location, and culture around the structure, we came up with a design.
Narrative
Recently the Smith House was acquired by a very successful couple who would like to get a few additional spaces added to the house without disrupting the original structure. The husband is a very famous producer who wants to add a studio where he will be able to produce music amongst other things. Additionally, they would like to add a family room to accommodate their various friends during their social gatherings. Plus have a Master Bedroom added so they have a nice and cozy place to rest after a long day.

Preliminary Design
For my preliminary design, I placed the necessary mass spaces in addition to the main circulation path and developed the structure from there. I used my knowledge to place and fix the spaces along the circulation path in a way that it would fit best with the original structure.
